Around christchurch

It feels very english here - beech trees and wooden bridges and ducks and acorns the size of my thumb and a gargoyle who reminds me of the famous caricature of the dean of Brasenose (who insisted that the mason change the gargoyle and grew to look just like the hollow-cheeked, thin-nosed replacement). The palm trees aren't that different but the eucalyptus and sasparilla trees are - sasparilla smells herby and tangy and the bark peels off the eucalypts in strips leaving huge white trunks shining in the bright sun.
