see through

I'm already losing track of who said what and why on the conversion; so this journal is going to be an aide memoire! I remember talking about Velux windows with the first chap from the builders but I can't remember what we decided about sizes. What has arrived is two of the larger squarer windows which will give us more light and more headroom: as the builder chirpily puts it 'I hope you want them because they're bigger, more expensive and they're already up here on the roof ready to go in'. I haven't heard the bigger, better, faster, more line since the MD at Future used to drum up enthusiasm for new launches ;-)

So today they'll fill in Simon's lovely hole with the windows; the hole at the back they made for light and ventilation (it's warm in the loft!) and that gets bigger tomorrow as they rip off the back of the roof for the mansard. The plywood flooring is already down (plywood rather than chipboard so we can put wooden floorboards onto it, which we must go and choose soon along with the sink and the tiles for the roof terrace and half a dozen other things...). The scaffolder came back to adjust the poles at the back and the downstairs decking isn't standing up too well ('DIY decking?' asked the builder; 'all his own work' we replied). Also today, we should get satellite reception back as there's a man coming to move the dish out of the line of the scaffolding poles ;-)
