Heathrow terminal 1 is a barn now less crammed with cattle, but still a barn. Madrid satellite terminal is all eco-modern, curving wooden slatted ceilings high above, painted exposed structural beams, capsule lifts and grass roofs on the base of the control tower. The air train station is circular lights echoing circular air conditioning pillars with circular vents. The baggage hall - at which our luggage takes twice as long as us to arrive despite us trekking miles across the terminal, making me wish I'd accepted the wheelchair - is more 70's, with vents that come straight out of Logan's Run. I thought I'd found a map of the airport... It was a map of where you can smoke.
