Barbie says: chemistry is hard!

Remember the Barbies that said "Math is hard" and the activists who swapped doll voice boxes so it was GI Joe saying "I'm having a bad hair day"?
I'm posting in my techtoys journal again, with nifty gadgets I find: this time it's the new NEC battery technology that charges in 30 seconds... I'm keeping the tech posts over there so I can easily syndicate them onto my Web pages for looking good in a work context, but I'll link them across from here usually

I am heartened to see some good progress on battery technology. Computers certainly can use higher energy densities and fast recharge rates. The high charge rate is great for photovoltaic energy storage but the total charge cycles still needs to be higher than 1000; it should be at least 3000. The articles did not mention the charging efficiency (the amount of energy it takes to store x amp-hours) as that needs to be greater than 80% for any practical PV storage.

Still this is hopeful. The last time I looked at advanced battery design, I was torn between the efficiency of Vanadium pentoxide batteries and the ultra toxicity problems of the electrolytes.

Somewhat off topic, but Happy Birthday! I hope you're having a good one.
