Don't bank with Alliance & Leicester

I switched banks to get a better interest rate on my savings; they finally paid me some interest and it's not the interest rate I signed up for. I just asked for the tax certificiate - and it was only after I clicekd the link that I saw the note about it costing £10. I'm switching back the minute I can...

they give you a free one for a savings account and charge for a duplicate or a certificate for your current account; I think that's a touch dodgy but as it turned out to be a duplicate I'd requested they 'filled in a form to request that it gets cancelled'. And when I asked what the interest rate actually is they said it was very complicated to work out, left me on hold while they looked it up for so long that I got put through to someone completely new and they said it's 12% - so I don't know who to believe. And the phone security questions were all ones you could answer if you found a statement printout in the recycling rather than real shared secrets...
